UK Fresh ‘86′

3 September 2008 504 views 5 Comments

Not much info about this event was available on the Internet for ages and then a couple of years ago some audio rips appeared on Soulseek. You can now download these from a few web sites (The Essential Elements seems to currently have a live link to 2 hours and 30 minutes of audio goodness). Return to Bunk Bed has some photos from the event which are well worth checking. I’ve had the programme sat of my shelf now for 20 or so years and tonight I gave it a quick scan. It’s a bit tatty around the edges and does have some random scribbles on some of the pages, but despite that it’s still a quality piece of history. Click each image for a large version with readable text.

You can also download this as a pdf file (10 Mb) for ease of viewing.

Oh my god that the first time ive seen the program and i didnt realise my piece was in it!!. Its the Crazy Carnival on just after the Up Writers page…wow!. The guy in the photo is Snake who was one of the first graff writers in London. He did the original Dynamite piece in Covent garden in 83/84 when the original hording was done. I painted with him for 2-3 years before he retired.

I’ve only ever seen a couple of these pages of the programme before. That one of Mike is forever etched in my mind *shudder*.

had this on tape since then! love to see footage, was in for shoplifting on the day(THAT long ago) friend of mine has about 5mins of it on betamax but reckons its black and white and mainly consists of two birds fighting in the audience, looked stale from the pics but still a landmark event in UK hiphop history, also still got the 2page spread in the old Black Echoes magazine
